April Shepherd is an established British sculptor producing highly expressive works exploring movement and the natural world.
April Shepherd is one of the UK’s most exciting young artists, and her breath-taking animal charcoals and sculptures have won her international acclaim.
Her charcoal sketches are executed with a swiftness, boldness and lightness of touch that is wholly appropriate to the animals they portray, utilising a technique of rapid and spontaneous movement. Through loose yet definite mark making, she vigorously creates a shape that expresses character or movement, partly by exaggerating anatomical truth. Her stunning smoke fired sculpture is also highly collectable, and explores the idea of weightlessness
Each highly expressive work explores the energy life of her chosen subject, and her concepts are often enriched by her love of literature, folklore and mythology. April has undertaken prestigious commissions for clients including Morgan Stanley and the British Embassy in India. Her work is held in private collections worldwide and has been shown in many mixed exhibitions at venues including the Royal Academy.
